Module 1 Week 01 Homework (Simple Block Sprite Project)

In this assignment, I was tasked to create both a 2D and 3D Sprite in Unreal Engine 5.

2D

For my 2D sprite, I decided to make a character from a relatively obscure NES game called "Astyanax." Even though it's not as satisfying to play as other games at the time, it holds a place in my heart due to its unique gameplay and simple yet enjoyable story. I originally thought of using the small player sprite of the main character as my base, but, in order to challenge myself, I decided to use a much bigger cutscene sprite of a supporting fairy character in the game called Cutie (yes, that's her literal name).

In the end, the sprite I wound up using was roughly 124 by 124 pixels. As you can imagine, this took quite a while to create, but I like how it turned out in the end:

Top Right of Wing Complete

Whole Top Section Done

Halfway There

Almost Done

Complete

I wound up adding a pink fog in the end on top of the lighting to tie everything together so she has a more ethereal look.

3D

This sprite is a custom one I made. I call it "Turtle that has the appearance of a Ninja." Despite it being smaller than my 2D sprite, it was somewhat more involved and intricate since I was creating a model with a more voxel form.

Floor and Fog Created

Shell Being Formed

Complete

Overall, I had fun with this assignment, and I'm looking forward to what the rest of bootcamp has to offer. Peace and take care! ✌
